MOOCAP promoting an Accessible eLearning Special Thematic Session at ICCHP July 13-15, 2016, Linz

The MOOCAP team are very happy to be supporting a group of experts presenting at ICCHP 2016 on the subject of Accessible eLearning along with the use of ICT and Assistive Technologies in online situations including Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCSs)

These free online courses are encouraging large numbers of attendees who may have very different skills and abilities and require new ways of teaching and learning to ensure everyone gains from the experience. MOOCs, in particular, tend to include a considerable amount of multimedia with images, videos and audio presentations. The various platforms or organisations presenting these courses offer a wide range of subjects from Modern History to Mathematics, Computer Science to Catering. They attract all ages and yet everyone on the courses is expected to be able to interact with the content and discussions.

The challenges of teaching differently and making elearning (in whatever form) accessible and easy to use with ICT and assistive technologies (AT) will be discussed in this special thematic session. There will be presentations that offer a wide range of innovative ideas introducing:

  • Teaching Accessibility with Personas – A day in the Life of…
  • A Scenario-based approach to enhance open learning through accessibility
  • Learning through Videos: Are Disabled Students using good Note-taking Strategies?
  • How Accessible are MOOCs to the Elderly?
  • The European Computer Driving Licence: 15 years later
  • A personal reflection on developing a digital accessibility MOOC compared to developing a traditional course.
