{"id":598,"date":"2016-07-04T16:21:58","date_gmt":"2016-07-04T16:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moocap.gpii.eu\/?p=598"},"modified":"2016-07-04T16:21:58","modified_gmt":"2016-07-04T16:21:58","slug":"workshop-learning-about-universal-design-by-means-of-a-massive-open-online-course-on-accessibility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moocap.gpii.de\/?p=598","title":{"rendered":"Workshop: Learning about Universal Design by means of a Massive Open Online Course on Accessibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MOOCA partner University of the Aegean is leading a workshop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/ud2016.uk\/\">Universal Design 2016 conference<\/a> in York, UK in late August 2016  with the title :<\/p>\n<p><strong>Learning about Universal Design by means of a Massive Open Online Course on <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;Accessibility&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;The extent to which a product (including software, websites and documents) or service can be used by everyone, regardless of disabilities.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/moocap.gpii.de\/?glossary=accessibility\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>Accessibility<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of this workshop is learning about <a href=\"http:\/\/universaldesign.ie\/What-is-Universal-Design\/Definition-and-overview\/\">Universal Design (<abbr>UD<\/abbr>)<\/a> by means of a <abbr><a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemTitle&gt;MOOC&lt;\/div&gt;&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Massive open online course, i.e. an online course that can be accessed by an unlimited audience, and that typically uses videos, readings, quizzes and discussion forums.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/moocap.gpii.de\/?glossary=mooc\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]'  tabindex='0' role='link'>MOOC<\/a><\/abbr>. It is addressed to educators and students of Universal Design, as well as to design professionals. This is because there is &#x2018;something for everyone&#x2019; in this workshop and its topic, since with a <abbr>MOOC<\/abbr>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>educators can explore new models of <abbr>UD<\/abbr> learning and understand how they might adapt them for their teaching needs,<\/li>\n<li>students can enrol on free courses to supplement their <abbr>UD<\/abbr> lectures and coursework materials,<\/li>\n<li>design professionals can update their existing <abbr>UD<\/abbr> knowledge or further expand their <abbr>UD<\/abbr> skills without leaving the workplace for traditional training.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Using as a basis the European Erasmus+ funded project MOOCA, this workshop will introduce participants to current thinking about research and practice into new ways of learning, as well give them the chance to sample some of the MOOCA materials.
